By virtue of the fact that I’m having a baby, I’m going to be moving to a day shift– let’s face it, if both Mom and Dad are working til midnight who the hell is going to want to keep the baby? While I’ll miss working nights, there is one major win that comes with moving to days, and that’s the ability to start cooking again. I love to cook– its very soothing, and such an inexact science as to be hard to mess up once you get the basics down. And yes, that process of getting the basics down can lead to hilarity and such, but that was what home ec was for
.
Now, I will be able to pick up the full swing of cooking around the time that summer fades into fall, which means that my normal cooking style will once again need to go into hibernation, and sadly, my quest to conquer summer seafood and cerviches will have to wait until next year. In the meantime, I need to get cracking on finding recipes that are good for fall and winter– I’m not really a hearty cooker, and that shouldn’t surprise anyone. I’m thinking this involves heftier meats and root vegetables and stews, but beyond that I have nothing. So if anyone has a website or recipe emporium to point me toward, I would be more than grateful. The gluten free thing is not a requirement– I’m learning to adapt recipes on the fly with greater and greater ease, though not always great success.
Depending on my success levels, I may end up doing a weekly series detailing my foray into cooking winter meals, but that is yet to be determined.
I have a cousin in your position, but she’s given some serious thought into opening a gluten/allergen-free restaurant. I’ll send along her name, maybe she can give you some ideas, her intolerance for glutton nearly killed her, so I’m sure she’ll be more than on your level and maybe have some betas for you to play with.
